What is Sanda (散打)?
Chinese sanda (散打 lit. ‘free hitting/fighting’) is a modern Chinese martial arts that is based upon traditional methods and techniques.
Unlike sport sanda sometimes called sanshou (散手 lit. ‘free hand’), the version taught to the Chinese army incorporates weapon training (e.g., dagger) as well as unarmed and armed defensive techniques. The method taught at the Qing Long Sanda Club is the version taught to both male and female recruits by the instructor’s unit of the Wu Jing (Special Military Police) training unit and Special Forces.
Sanda training incorporates:
- Kicking
- Striking
- Joint Locking/ Restraints
- Throwing
- Defensive & Offensive Techniques with Weapons
Our Club
Although our club is new, the instructor, Dennis Rovere has over 50 years of instructional experience
and is the only civilian to train with the bodyguard instructor’s unit for the Chinese government in Beijing, China.
- Train students to gain a solid basis in, and understanding of, fundamentals of realistic self-defense – something that is currently lacking in much of today’s martial arts training
- Maximize the potential of each student in terms of understanding theory, proper technique, biomechanics, and so on
- Develop a solid basis in self-defense and combat applications – both unarmed and armed
- Gather a ‘core group’ of students that train regularly and help each other improve
